The final event of the year was the last of the Phoenix Marathon series of events. A fairly brief report today just ‘for the books’ but the event was once again the 4 out and back laps along the Thames Path.

Today, it was fairly cold with icy puddles and a bit of mud along parts of the course but wasn’t too bad when the sun was out.

I had an ‘ok-ish’ run. I was hoping to run at least similar to my effort a month ago (3.05) but didn’t seem to have anything in my legs for the last 8 miles or so and the pace slipped back with a definite slow down to the finish.

I finished 2nd from about 100 runners overall in a time of 3.11. Thanks to Rik and team for hosting the event and for the huge medal which marked the completion of the series. The four marathons I ran for the series resulted in times of 2.58, 3.16 (week after KACR), 3.05 and 3.11 so reasonable performances from me.

Phoenix Firebird medal for series completion.
